ABOUT
Omar Pitras Waqar is a Washington, D.C.–based composer, songwriter, guitarist, sitarist, producer, and actor. Founder of the independent label OPWdubs, Waqar is known for blending punk, sitar, noise, hip-hop, electronic, and film scores into boundary-breaking sound.
A pioneer of the anarcho-Sufi movement and longtime figure in the DIY punk underground, his work spans projects such as Diacritical, EvilArtForm, Sarmust, and Gardens for the Lush, alongside collaborations with filmmakers, artists, and activists worldwide. His music has appeared in films, television, and international festivals, while his street art / visual art has been seen all over the east coast of the united states and featured on tv and documentaries, and exhibited as part of Grammy Museum collections.
Waqar’s artistry explores anarcho-Sufi philosophy, experimental sound design, electro-Sufi textures, and desigoth atmospheres. Through omarsmusic.com and opwdubs.bandcamp.com, listeners can access a growing archive of recordings, scores, and re-releases, including the remastered Diacritical album produced with legendary engineer Don Zientara.
